How I Like to Remember My Mom and Dad

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on How I Like to Remember My Mom and Dad

My Mom and my Dad, Christmas 1975. They look truly happy together and that makes me really happy.
They divorced when I was 5, so I don’t really remember them being together and in love, so this is how I like to remember them. ~shared by @nottaylorsmith #savefamilyphotos #wewerehere #oldfamilyphotos #familyphotos #familyphoto #analog #foundphotos #pictapgo_app #parents #parent #vintagephotos #family #families #filmisnotdead

My grandma hanging laundry sometime in the 1950s. Look at all those kids’ pajamas. She eventually had 8 kids with 3 sets of twins! ~shared by @stay_at_home_girlfriend

A Treasure Trove of Old Family Photos

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on A Treasure Trove of Old Family Photos

My grandmother & my mother on the beach in North Carolina. I unearthed a thanksgiving treasure trove.

Reminds me of… “Ancient Kings” @brianandreas

My grandmother kept a box of old photos in her attic & we used to go up there on rainy days & sit on the floor in the dusty light & go through them & she would
tell about witches & broken
hearts & how we came from
royal blood & it was all there in the pictures, she said… #wewerehere #savefamilyphotos #familyphotos #familyphoto #analog #foundphotos #pictapgo_app #grandparents #grandmothers #grandmother #grandma #family #vintagephotos #filmisnotdead

What will you find in those old boxes in your family’s attic?

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on What will you find in those old boxes in your family’s attic?

I found a treasure in a very old box. April 1966. In the San Diego Evening Tribune. I was 9 (bending down feeding pigeons). My 2 year old brother, Brian Christensen, my Mom, and my friend were at Balboa Park having a picnic. My Dad worked just a couple of blocks away. I’m SO glad the photographer captured this moment in my life!

Learning about my family history means finding my roots

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Learning about my family history means finding my roots

These are the roots that anchor me. My maternal grandparents in the early 1930s. He was a minister, mortician, magician, medical doctor, cobbler, and carpenter. She could cook any and everything, and I still have her recipes.
They did it all during tough times and prospered. I never met him, but thankfully my parents provided me with those same values and strong work ethic. ~shared by @caduceus_maximus

Giving Thanks for Family Photos and the Stories They Tell

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Giving Thanks for Family Photos and the Stories They Tell

My mother, as beautiful as a young woman as she is today, created a home that’s overflowing with hospitality. This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for her love and warmth…and amazing, home-cooked food!

When I’m home for the holidays, one of
my favorite things to do is discover old family photos.
Will you take time this Thanksgiving to get out the shoeboxes of family photos?
You may discover priceless treasures. ~ shared by @rachellacour

The Photos that Matter Most…to Me.

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on The Photos that Matter Most…to Me.

Today, as I pack my bags for a high-profile photo shoot with a bunch of super successful, accomplished and famous folks, I remember which photos matter most…to me…photos like this snapshot of me and my Grandaddy in the late 1970s, looking love-filled in a pure moment of joy. It’s not technically sophisticated or perfect. Yet it’s everything a great image should be.

And something happens – I feel calm, my frayed nerves and performance anxiety go away, as I’m reminded of what really matters.
Photographs are memories made visible. And tangible. The technology doesn’t even matter much. It’s the content and the moment that are irreplaceably perfect. ~shared by @rachellacour

Our Family Pictures are more valuable than gold

This is an homage to my paternal grandmother & great grandparents, shown here in the Mineral Hill Nevada homestead & silver mining claim.
My grandmother, Mary Pearl, is shown wearing a big bow and plaid dress along with her other siblings.

Our Old Family Photos are evidence of a life lived well

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Our Old Family Photos are evidence of a life lived well

Our Granddad, Charles Edward Niesen, was a kid at heart. A lifelong St. Louis baseball fan – first Browns, then Cardinals – “Eddie” always had his scorecard out at games, keeping track of every play.

He showed the same joyful, longterm commitment to his family. He and Grandma would welcome us into their home with hugs, and chili-mac or pizza.
As we drove away to our lives elsewhere, they always stood on their front porch, waving goodbye until we were out of sight. They cherished every moment with us.

After Granddad died, we went through our old family photos and found his highlight reel. They’re all one-of-a-kind images, of a life well-lived (and loved). Photographs are memories made visible. And tangible.

Save them. ~ shared by @rachellacour
