A portrait of my grandfather tells us about the meaning of sacrifice

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on A portrait of my grandfather tells us about the meaning of sacrifice

More Memorial Day stories shared through our old family photos remind us what sacrifice is all about. My grandfather Jesse Cox was the fifth out of eight children born to Scott Cox and Jessie Belle Moorer. At the age of 23, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He attended the U.S. Army Post Fort Dix, […]

Grandpa Always Photographs Things He Adores

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Grandpa Always Photographs Things He Adores

Baby at a typewriter. And it’s not a hipster setup! It’s my aunt around 1965-66. I’m sure my grandmother used this typewriter and they let my aunt play with it. My grandpa was — and still is — always snapping photos of the family, so I’m sure he took this. Grandpa always photographs things he […]

“Nostalgia is a powerful feeling; it can drown out anything.” – Terrence Malick My grandmother with my mom and my uncles in 1950. Most of the family photos from back then included the family car and / or the family dog! ~shared by @debgarr9903 View on Instagram →

My Matriarch Was the Epitome of a Strong Woman

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on My Matriarch Was the Epitome of a Strong Woman

This is my Nan holding my mum, around 1941. My Nan was about 20 years old here. Not only did she have a baby and a husband to look after, but her elderly father and younger sister also lived with her in this tiny house in County Durham. She is the epitome of a strong […]

We Found Heaven on Earth in a Vintage Portrait of a Couple in Love

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on We Found Heaven on Earth in a Vintage Portrait of a Couple in Love

My folks at their engagement party in the 1960s. They got married May 16, 1964, so they just celebrated their golden wedding anniversary! They raised 5 children and now also have 5 grandchildren. They’ve always been a very romantic couple. Their pet name for each other is “Cielo,” which means “heaven” in Spanish. I’ve never […]

Vintage Family Photos Teach us Lessons of Strength, Endurance and Courage

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Vintage Family Photos Teach us Lessons of Strength, Endurance and Courage

1965. My mom (far left) was born and raised on the island of Raiatea (French Polynesia). She is pictured here with 4 of her 9 siblings and my grandparents in front of their home.

My grandparents got married without the support or consent of their families. They led a life of hard work on a farm, in very humble conditions.

Gosh, we really have it SO easy.

I’m grateful for the missionaries who not only changed their (and in turn mine) lives forever, but who were also able to document this.

With my grandmother and one of my aunties gone, these photos truly have become priceless. ~shared by @lobleebags

Who We Are Today is Directly Connected to Our Family History

Posted by | · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Who We Are Today is Directly Connected to Our Family History

We become who we are after understanding who they were.

This is my grandmother Velma Steward Sanders (center) with her siblings Emma and RT in Navarro County, Texas in 1922.

My sweet grandmother and her sister have lived in the same community in Texas their entire lives! They lived within a mile radius of their siblings.

Their father, Jim, donated the land for the colored school and part of the cemetery in Goodlow, Texas.

Uncle RT went to WWII and served overseas. He’s the baby in the picture, but he’s now 93!

My grandmother will be 97 in June. This picture is a great glimpse into their beginnings. ~shared by @aaronlmyers

Memories of my Father Found in old Photos from the County Fair

Posted by | · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Memories of my Father Found in old Photos from the County Fair

Dad riding low in the early 1950s.

He was a poor farm kid, the youngest of five, enjoying their treasured yearly outing to the Grant County Fair in Lancaster, WI.

This is a great photo to me because it shows the fun, adventurous side of my dad that he carried throughout the rest of his life.

He passed away in 2010, so I truly treasure any bit of him I can get. ~shared by @dahlidurley

Strong Values Passed Down from an Older Generation to a Younger Generation

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Strong Values Passed Down from an Older Generation to a Younger Generation

I just love this fun photo of my beautiful mother and her friends, circa 1954. My mother, Jacqueline Ann, grew up in a small southern town, Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was fortunate to have strong family connections. And, it was a simpler time. She spent a lot of time with her great-grandmother and her Aunt Frances […]
