The Most Marvelous Woman in My World
It’s been a year since her passing, and I still miss her every day.
My grandmother, affectionately known as Munya (the woman getting her leg signed in this photo), was the most marvelous woman in the world.
She had a presence that never went unnoticed and will never be forgotten.
Though not the typical grandmother, I could not imagine having anyone else as my Munya.
This was one of her most iconic photos.
Munya was engaged to my grandfather, who at the time of this photo was a POW in Germany during WWII, but she always loved going out dancing in Chicago. She had been at some type of concert, where Eddy Howard was performing. A photographer was looking for a woman to get her photo taken with Eddy. Munya volunteered.
The next day, her picture was in the newspaper, and her father kicked her out of the house for a week!
Years later, we found letters between my grandfather and my grandmother with the original newspaper clipping of this photo with a letter from my grandfather saying that he was very amused by the photo and missed her very much! ~shared by @alliewoodcock
