In honor of Father’s Day, we’re celebrating patriarchs all week!

And we want to see the patriarchs in your lives and hear how they inspire you.

One of the patriarchs who influenced me immensely was my Granddaddy, Billy Barnes, pictured here as a young man in uniform.

He truly connected with everyone he interacted with, whether it was the butchers at the grocery store, the waitresses where he ate, the pharmacists he visited frequently, or the entire staff at the assisted-living home where he lived with my grandmother.

His kind eyes and sparkling smile were contagious. He taught me to take myself a little less seriously, and to serenade my loved ones in a goofy but exuberant operatic voice!

I miss him every day.
