Why The Best Kind of History is Your Own
I love going to antique markets and sifting through old photographs. Yet it’s even more magical when you sift through your family’s photos. The best kind of history is your own.
My grandmother (shown in this photo) recently passed, and I flew to Manila to say goodbye and be with family.
Going through her closet, my mom showed me all the old albums. I dove right in and found this beauty. I couldn’t stop looking at it.
This is my great grandfather, my grandparents, my uncles, and my mom taking a vacation in a city, Baguio in the Philippines.
As a photographer and fledgling curator, I love all the elements about it which make it a good photo. From the composition, to the static yet telling moment, to the faces. And it’s these faces that make me sentimental. Seeing a part of their past which molded them for the present. Seeing faces like me, Filipina.
Rarely do I come across these sort of photos, and it’s a fantastic kind of feeling. ~shared by @mpedraja
