A Vintage Portrait of a Pioneering Woman Who Fought for Freedom
I’m proud to be related to the strong woman I see in this photograph. Grace Bateman, my great grandmother was known for her poise, elegance and skills as a needlewoman.
More importantly, however, Grace was chair of the townswomen’s guild which in the wake of the Suffragette movement promoted equal opportunity and rights for women in the UK and she drove a Jeep during WW2.
Remembering people who fought for our rights and freedom through tangible memories in the form of photographs is such an important part of growing up and building the future. ~shared by @geoxby
