My Father’s Old Photos Make Me Feel Close to Him Again
This is my favorite photo of my mom and me.
So glad I found it when digging through hundreds of old negatives I found at my parents’ house. It was made by my father in a hotel room somewhere.
At first glance, it appears to be a mother-daughter image, but I think it expresses more about my dad and me.
There were several other images on the roll of film taken in that room on that day, so it helped to put the scene in context. I saw that my little sister was also in the room. So in this photo, while my mother appears to be lost in her own thoughts and looking like a glamorous 1950’s movie star (actually early 1960’s), I know that she was clearly watching my sister in another part of the room.
I love my interaction with my dad; it looks like we are talking to each other.
He passed away in 2011, so finding this photo and so many others that he made of our family has made me feel close to him again. ~shared by @citysistereye
