I love this photo of my grandmother and her twin sister, beyond the obvious that it is a great composition of two beautiful twin sisters.

I recently saw this photo for the first time and I could immediately tell which one is my grandma Marian (on the left). Her sister Madeline is on the right. According to my mother and other stories I’ve heard, Madeline was the “bad” twin. Madeline was always doing things that embarrassed my grandmother. That may be why I always thought of my grandmother as a very independent, accomplished woman. She always seemed very strongly herself and didn’t seem to mind being on her own.

She was an amazing artist, seamstress and cook. She traveled to India several times and instilled in me a love of travel and openness to other cultures.

I miss her all the time and her influence is still so much a part of who I am! ~shared by @maralillian
