A Family Portrait of Life in Cambodia before my grandmother fled to America
This portrait is so important to me and my family. My aunt restored it from the original negative. It was taken in 1970, when my family still lived in Cambodia. This reminds us of life in Cambodia before my grandmother fled to America with her children, seeking a new life and an escape from war. Images like this one fill me with many varied emotions, but I am so grateful that we have them as reminders of our legacy. I’m so grateful for my grandmother’s courage and boldness. She has lived through so much, carried experiences that I couldn’t begin to fathom. Yet she has always shown unquestionable courage. My grandmother is second from the left; my grandfather is on the far right. The baby is my eldest auntie! ~shared by @laylaeso
