My Father’s Gift of Photography Transcended Time and Place
I recently found a negative of this beautiful photo that my father took. It’s my mother and my two older brothers in the suburbs of the Jersey Shore. I love discovering photos of my family I have never seen before. These images, and the memories they evoke, are such gifts.
I now have all of our family photos and as I go through them, I occasionally come across a shot I have never seen before…like this one.
My father was an amazing photographer; there are hundreds of photos in our collection that he took. The ones I love most, though, are the everyday snapshots of my mother raising her kids. This one is not posed at all and shows their life on a hot summer day on the Jersey Shore. It also shows how effortlessly beautiful my mother was.
My brother Greg passed away recently. He is the baby in the photo. It is only me, my sister, and my brother David (who is also in the photo) left now. Greg’s legacy lives on; he was a well-respected musician and had a huge impact, not only on the people that loved him, but on many people who never even met him.
