Snapshots of a First Generation American Family
This photo is of my parents feeding my sister at her christening in 1994. The first time I saw it I almost died laughing. It’s the perfect combination of cute and funny.
.
Fun fact, I come from an Armenian family and it used to be really common to have a lot of people gather for baptisms. They were huge events with hundreds of people partying all night and on par with the formality and size of our weddings.
.
Awhile back I stumbled upon hundreds of old photos of my Armenian family growing up as first generation Americans in the 1980s and 90s. Eventually, I decided to post them on instagram to really showcase the experience of an immigrant family coming to America and bringing in pieces of their culture while assimilating into American culture.
.
The melding of two worlds can be a beautiful one and that’s really what this photo showcases to me.
