These two boys, Charlie and Bobby, ages 4 and 3, already had a baby brother. And there was one more to come in a couple of years! Imagine having to get all those stockings on all those little legs. And all those boots to lace or button up. My grandmother had domestic help, but still…four boys must’ve been a lot of work!

Happily, my grandmother still found the time to label all of the snapshots with names and ages. I wish I’d known her, but she died two weeks before my parents wedding.

My father, looking sweet here, also had a serious side. Yet he always had a wonderful sense of humor and fun, and his favorite saying was ‘joie de vivre.’ He and Uncle Charlie, his Irish twin, were a real hoot when they got together.
