This is a photograph of my grandmother Carolyn, taken in 1945 in Hollywood, Florida.
Sitting next to her is her mother Mary. Across from her is her sister Dorothy (in the white sunglasses). I recently discovered a suitcase of old prints and negatives from this time period, right before my grandmother met and married my sailor grandfather.

My grandmother Carolyn and her sister Dorothy were photographed and featured in the local newspaper as visiting New Jersey socialites.

Also accompanying them, and possibly the person who took this photo, was family friend and young priest named Father Jim.

As a photographer whose work often draws inspiration from family histories, I’m currently working on a project called “What Did the Deep Say” about the choices my grandmother made for love and about this brief period of her life in Hollywood, Florida. ~shared by @saramacel whose wonderful work and personal projects can also be found at her website: saramacel.com
