Old Pictures Offer us a Front-Row Seat to Family History
“Tell us a story from before we can remember.”—The Tree of Life
My journey with family photos began with wedding photography. During a decade as a wedding photographer, I got a front-row seat to family history. And the photos I made were priceless for families who trusted me to document such an important milestone.
That’s why wedding photos are close to my heart. This one, in particular, is important to me and my husband, Andrew.
This is his grandparents’ wedding. Gladys Ware Means and David B. Hilley were married June 11, 1949 in South Carolina.
Their grandchildren called them “Gee” and “Boppa.” I never met Boppa; he died too young. Yet he lives on in photos, stories, and the entrepreneurial spirit of my husband, Andrew. Every time I see Andrew’s brain processing a new business idea, I feel like I’m seeing a bit of Boppa.
Family photos are more than images; they’re stories; they’re history. They tell us, we were here. ~shared by @rachellacour
