A Polaroid of My Mother Reminds Me Why Saving Family Photos is Important
Ten years go by so fast. Your grandson is now nine and your granddaughter will be six at the end of the month. One of the biggest tragedies of my life has been the fact that you never had the opportunity to meet each other.
This photo was taken with a Polaroid Pronto in 1977 at Buchart’s Garden in Victoria, British Columbia. It was taken soon after my family moved from Toronto to Vancouver. We spent two winters in Toronto and it was enough to motivate the family to move to the mild temperatures of the Pacific Northwest. We left in mid-Spring to finish off my Kindergarten year in Vancouver.
Old photos taken with my mother mean the world to me, I wish I had more of them.
November 18, 2015 marked the 10th year of her passing. Mental health issues resulting in parental suicide stole her away from me much too soon. Losing my Mom has been the single most devastating tragedy in my life, coupled with the fact that she was never able to meet her two amazing grandchildren. Now they only get to hear the stories.
She was truly an amazing person, full of talent and boundless energy.
I miss her dearly every day. ~shared by @mandmphotographie
