My Mod Mother, Pictured in the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1970s
My beautiful mother turned 86 this month, so I knew I had to share this glam photo of her, in Hawaii in the early 1970s. She had traveled to the islands to meet up with my dad, who was deployed in Vietnam. As she says, he needed some R&R.

This photo captures the era perfectly, with the setting as well as her outfit and mod white sunglasses. The original photo is actually a Polaroid, which is why the colors and hues are so memorable. No filter needed!

I was only five years old when my dad was serving in Vietnam. I have a fun memory of my mom preparing and packing to go meet up with him. Most of all, what I remember are the nifty surf shorts and mu-mu style tunics she brought back for us kids! ~shared by @john_kraynak
