This is where my love of vintage truly began!

My grandparents, Mummu and Vaari, inspired me in countless ways.

They were full Finnish and they were the “it” couple. Vaari was born in 1915. Mummu was born in 1917. People used to say Mummu was as beautiful as Marilyn Monroe, a beautiful blonde bombshell. This adorable photo of them was taken on July 4, 1951.

I remember seeing Mummu in expensive linens and cottons…everything from pant suits to dresses. She was beautiful, always wearing her pearls. Vaari always had a sleek suit and tie. I was mesmerized from the very beginning, already knowing when I was a little girl that I somehow didn’t belong in the current decade in a lot of ways. I loved the classic beauty of my grandparents’ generation.
Sadly, both of them have passed away, but their photos will always be my most prized possessions, and deepest sources of creative inspiration.
