These are some of my favorite family photos from my childhood. They have inspired my journey as a professional photographer. My grandfather captured many moments in our family’s life in Italy. I’m so thankful for these images.

The first is a snapshot of my mother and me on the beach, near the Island of Cirella. We were relaxing in Diamante, a small seaside village where I spent my childhood. I look at this photo and can still feel the hot rocks, the torrid heat, and the salty sea breezes. I also remember rows of Indian figs along the railroad. Far away, music drifts over the umbrella and into our hearts.

The second snapshot shows me with my father in Piazza Santo Spirito, in Florence in the 1970s. I am almost certain this was a Sunday. This photograph was from a series of photos my grandfather made that weathered time and age incredibly well. The photos have traveled across generations, being passed amongst family members, changing homes and being stored in various places. Yet they have survived and are still just as lovely. In the background, you can see my grandfather’s home. Every year, we waited to celebrate Christmas together in my grandparent’s living room.
