A True Sportsman Pictured in an Old Photo

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on A True Sportsman Pictured in an Old Photo

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” (Little Gidding)
T.S. Eliot

My grandfather, Billy Barnes, loved football and all of the bowl games that took place every New Year’s Day. He reveled in the joy of sportsmanship and fair play. I hope I can convey those values to my family, too. He was a gentle giant. Miss you, #64. ~shared by @rachellacour

Family History Goes to the Races

My grandfather Joseph was a horse jockey who raced in the U.S. and Mexico in the 1930’s. This was taken at the track where he met my grandmother in Aurora, Illinois.

He died before I was born; I wish I could’ve known him. ~ shared by @thirddegreebernie

An Australian Family Story

Me with my Mum. She wasn’t happy unless I had a bow in my hair. We lived on a farm in central west New South Wales, Australia and every Christmas holidays, we’d drive seven hours to Sydney and spend a few weeks at Dee Why beach. It was always an exciting time. ~shared by @janemadge

All By Myself

This is me as a kid, in Belleville, New Jersey, circa 1971.

I was proudly posing because I’d just put up the flag “all by myself” with some parental help. There’s so much pride in that small smile! ~shared by @tomflynn51

The Reason I Believe in True Love

My grandparents have always been the reason I believe in true love. This is one of my favorite photos of them; they were young and in love. And they held each other just as passionately when they grew old.
And I will never stop missing my Grandaddy. ~shared by @rachellacour

Old Family Pictures are the Greatest Gifts

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Old Family Pictures are the Greatest Gifts

Whether we are far away or home for the holidays, family photos make us feel closer to those whom we love.
This is my father and my uncle in the mid 1950s on Christmas morning in Meridian, Mississippi. I love the joy and goofiness on their faces, as they experience carefree childhood Christmas morning magic. ~shared by @rachellacour
