The Reason I Believe in True Love

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on The Reason I Believe in True Love

My grandparents have always been the reason I believe in true love. This is one of my favorite photos of them; they were young and in love. And they held each other just as passionately when they grew old.
And I will never stop missing my Grandaddy. ~shared by @rachellacour

Old Family Pictures are the Greatest Gifts

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Old Family Pictures are the Greatest Gifts

Whether we are far away or home for the holidays, family photos make us feel closer to those whom we love.
This is my father and my uncle in the mid 1950s on Christmas morning in Meridian, Mississippi. I love the joy and goofiness on their faces, as they experience carefree childhood Christmas morning magic. ~shared by @rachellacour

A Sicilian Story told in an Old Photo

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on A Sicilian Story told in an Old Photo

This is my Dad and his siblings with Santa, in the late 1950s. He’s the boy on the left and was the second of eventually ten total kids.

My Dad was the child of a first generation Sicilian immigrant and an English heritage Southerner from GA. This was taken somewhere in the Philadelphia region. From left Robert (Bobby my dad), Anna, Baby Mary, William, & Katherine (Kathy). Later five more were added to the brood. ~ shared by @lucindalunacy

Photographs are Part of a Family’s Soul

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Photographs are Part of a Family’s Soul

Featured in this photo are my great grandparents: Nono and Nanna with their daughter, my great Aunt Vita. They’ve all passed now.
They were Sicilian immigrants, my Nono participated in the Italian army in WWII but we don’t know to what extent. My Nana, grandma and great aunt came to America by boat a few years after the war. Within the next few years they all became American citizens, my Nono was very proud of this achievement.
My great aunt died young, so I never was able to meet her, although, we talk about her often.

My Nono was my hero and best friend growing up. He had the most gorgeous garden and taught me so many things but was never able to teach me Sicilian, instead we would play a hand slapping game and we would go back and forth speaking phrases he taught me.
My Nana, his beautiful wife, was one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. She always went to church; welcomed anyone with open arms; and her cooking and baking were above the rest. She would get frustrated with Nonno and me, but it was always with love.
This photo was taken sometime in the 1960s, I believe my great aunt unfortunately passed away shortly after this. I would be born almost 30 years later, but this is one of my very cherished photos of my family…of the people who shaped and molded my entire family for years to come.

I feel like old photos are a part of a family’s collective soul. ~ shared by @milkglas

Why Finding a Box of Old Photos is Magical

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Why Finding a Box of Old Photos is Magical

Look what a little doll my Grandma Alice was. She’s the little one in the bottom left.
We found a box of old photos in the attic and this antique photo album was in there with all these beautiful images of my dad’s mom when she was young.

I love vintage photos but they’re always better when you recognize the people in them and can tell part of their story. ~shared by @christineomfg (What are you doing this holiday to gather the stories behind your family photos so they won’t be lost?) #savefamilyphotos #wewerehere #familyphotos#familyphoto #grandparents #vintagephoto #vintagephotos #filmisnotdead #pictapgo_app

In Loving Memory Of…

Posted by | · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on In Loving Memory Of…

My mother’s tree is full of ornaments that have meaning. Last year I got this ornament for her and one for my aunt. It’s says “in loving memory” with an image of my grandparents from their wedding day. (I couldn’t help but buy one for myself too.) I never had the chance to meet my grandfather. He passed away when my mom was just 12 years old. I always wish I had the chance to have met him. I know when I see his photo that it is possible to miss someone you’ve never met.

Seeing photos of him and my grandmother happy and in love makes me smile and it also makes me wonder how my life would have been different with him in it.
This one is a favorite on my tree! ~shared by @millieholloman

Reunited with an Old Family Photo Album

Posted by | · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · | Featured Family Stories | No Comments on Reunited with an Old Family Photo Album

We have been reunited with an old family photo album, which we thought was lost when my Grandma died 25 years ago. I had never seen any of my Mum and Dad’s wedding photos, but this album has them.

31 years later, and my Mum and Dad are still going strong! ~shared by mrsdbrown82
